I'd be happy if there were a number of conditions met...

Berry would have to fall out of the top 5 since no S is worth 9-10mil/yr.
The Titans sign Julius Peppers for the next 2-3 years but make him PRODUCE for the big money.
The Titans trade next years 1st rnd pick for CB Kyle Wilson.
Titans trade players they don't need (like LenDale White, Bo Scaife, ect.) to get some more mid-round picks to fill depth and get some talent and youth at DL, OL, LB.
Titans keep all productive RFA and UFA's like Tulloch, Bulluck, ect and jettison the junk (Harper, KVB, ect).
Titans DO NOT DRAFT A TE!!!

Peppers wants a long term deal with the maximum guaranteed and has said he wants to play for a 3-4 team. So how does your scenario play out?

He won't accept a deal like that.

We have 4 active TE's still in the mix, plus the PS guys. 'Nearly' is the key word here.

 

Since when did we fire Reinfeldt and hired Matt Millen as our GM? Oh wait Millen would trade all of our picks to take a crack at Dez Bryant or Golden Tate.

 

In the mix what is that? We have Cook and Stevens under contract and have said that we are going to tender scaife as a RFA. Who else?

PS guys are not under contract and Jamie Petrowski our only PS TE last year was picked up by the colts off our practice squad.

They have said nothing or done nothing to indicate that Crumpler will be offered a contract.

The costs are too great. If you're talking about a QB, you can never know if he'll be a great QB over the long run, you just can't.

Even if it's a player that has all indications of looking like he has a great future, getting him guarantees you nothing. Injury, accident, etc, all take out players all the time. Plus, the fact that you can't guarantee anything, really.

Then there are the contract issues that Gut mentions. Even if the player is a superstar, the cost of the first contract in the draft is prohibitive, and will have a ripple effect for the entire life of the contract, and possibly longer. If the player isn't a QB, and a great one, it's just not worth it.

You need 11 guys to play defense, and most of them need to be above average NFL level talent.
