Let's get to the root of the real problem here. Nerf.

 

Keep the play in front of him? The guy gets burned on simple IN routes more than anyone i've ever seen. The receiver cuts back and he's 10 yards down field dicking off.

 

Well...

It's rather simple actually...Hill doesn't play the ball well...which translates into he shouldn't be covering anyone one on one down the sideline AND he should not be playing the deep 3rd on a cover 3. Think a poorer man's Denard Walker.

Of course, when we blitz, he's singled up and when we play cover 3...he's one on one down the sideline. When he's in cover 3, that when you see the WR's breaking in a Hill too deep...he's protecting against a double move (since if he bites on the in and the WR gets by him...it's a TD).

Hill would be a decent CB if we kept a S over the top of him. On deep balls, the S can make the play on the ball and Hill could play tighter coverage. Having Lamont sitting in the deep middle (lost) doesn't help either.

Play more man coverage with 2 deep S's and you'll find him not getting burned that often. He does tackle in run support pretty well. I'm a bit worried though that Harper is used to playing with a S over the top (cover 2) and Hill NEEDS to have one. Will Schwartz adjust the D to more of a cover 2? Probably not.

But if we're lucky, he'll at least let Hill play the SHORT zone in cover 3 with the 3 deep players being Hope, Harper and Finnegan/Griffin/Lowry/Fuller.

I fear we won't be that lucky given last year...
