It's a good movie, but the hype it's gotten is gonna hurt it. This is NOT the "Black Godfather; it's essentially a biopic on of the most successful and innovative drug dealer in American history and one of the pioneers of heroin in this country. The sophistication isn't there in this movie, and there's simply TOO much in this movie (runs at 2 and a half hours, but it feels like it). Denzel gives a good performance, and Crowe is nice as well. Josh Brolin and John Ortiz were highlights to me as cops. The other problem is that I feel like I've seen this all before, but that's a problem with a lot of drug movies. I've done a lot of reading and research on the drug trade in the 70s and 80s for my major, and I feel like with all I've read, I could see more innovation in the films. That said, this is an enjoyable movie, with a great director, a good screenplay, and a nice performances. It's worth seeing, no doubt.

    Overally, get's a 4/5 from me.

But movies of the year go to No Country For Old Men (amazing, amazing adaptation of a great novel) and potentially to There Will Be Blood (I've heard nothing but superb things about this).
