Aloha kakou! Traci and I are on high ground, but lower roads are closed. My shipping agent is closed also, which sucks because I worked late to get a container packed to ship to Big Island this morning :irked:

Reportedly Maui got the highest wave at seven feet and it came 1/3 mile inland. Outside of that little bit of info, you'd think that nobody in any news agency knows that Hawaii has an island called Maui. We're totally treated like the b'tard stepchild of the state :irked:

Mahalo a ke malama na pilialoha!

Wow this is crazy to hear, a good friend of mine is in the marines and stationed over in japan. He was a good ways away from everything but said the quakes were still bad where he was. I dont know if any of you have heard but there could still be more to come, theres a nuclear plant overheating and unable to be cooled down right now.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that was affected by this

They can move here. We have surprisingly few Japanese on this island.... they all go to O'ahu.

I have been reading that Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands are expecting it to hit later on today.

Immediate Tsunami Warning - A Warden Message from the U.S. Consulate General in Guayaquil, Ecuador

A massive magnitude 8.9 earthquake rocked the Japan coast on Friday,
triggering tsunami warnings for twenty countries, including the coast of
Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. NOAA alerts indicate that the tsunami
could reach Ecuador late afternoon to early evening on Friday. Action
should be taken to protect life and property. A tsunami is a series of
long ocean waves. Each individual wave crest can last 5 to 15 minutes or
more and extensively flood coastal areas. The danger can continue for
many hours after the initial wave as subsequent waves arrive. Tsunami
wave heights cannot be predicted and the first wave may not be the
largest. All shores are at risk no matter which direction they face.
The Galapagos Islands may be especially vulnerable to large waves.
Extremely strong and unusual currents can accompany a tsunami. Debris
picked up and carried by a tsunami amplifies its destructive power.
Simultaneous high tides or high surge can significantly increase the
tsunami hazard. Press reports note that President Correa has declared a
state of exception/emergency and the coastal region may be subject to
    evacuation today.

Americans living near or visiting the coastal areas of Ecuador and the
Galapagos islands should monitor tsunami warnings on
http://www.prh.noaa.gov/ptwc/ and www.cnn.com, as well as local news
    sources.

If anything, I'd be concerned about the Marshall islands... they've already eroded away considerably, and are expected to be submerged in a few short decades. How bad would that suck??... having to be expatriated because your country sunk?

Wow just saw that Japan was just hit with another earthquake that was estimated as a 6.6, they said it was its own earthquake with a different epicenter, not an after shock
