Just heard on the Dan Patrick Show that Jeff Samardzija will sign a contract with the Cubs. So which reciever do you think moves into the first round now?

Samardzija IMO would be a complete fool to play NFL football with the kind of money he will get in baseball. If for some reason he throws his arm out in the next couple of years he could always try the NFL but as long as he is throwing 98 MPH fast balls he is going to be much better off sticking to baseball. More lucrative and much better for the body long term. Also, he can play until he is almost 40. The difference in money if he makes it to the big dance is incredible.

    $2m a year..

That's what he is guarenteed. Not even in the majors yet so not bad. And unlike nfl contracts baseball contracts are largely guarenteed.

All one has to do is look at roger clemens or randy johnson to see why he did that. An average starting pitcher makes more money than many top Wrs and they play until they are 40 and beyond.. Roger clemens is 44, has been in the major leagues since 1984 and makes more than peyton manning.. Clemens made $22m last year and one of his contract demands this year is to be able to leave the team between starts. Nice work if you can get it..

Want another good example of what a pitcher can make? Miquel batista a career 68-79 pitcher signed a 3 year $24m deal at the age of 36 with the mariners..
