He's not a bad back and when healthy is a pure work horse, just needs to be given the carries and he, like eddie used to, gets stronger as the game goes on.

that's why the cowboys pulled him late in games in favor of a more powerful Barber?

you've got them completely mixed up. barber, not jones, was their goal line back because he's more powerful.

Jones is the kind of back that we need IMO. I have no problem trying to find that kind of back in the draft this year... So if we get Jones it better be because we got the deal we wanted. Back up running backs are easy to find. And if it's a true starter or a player to push LW that the Front Office wants then I don't really want Jones. He's not really proven anything. Might as well keep C Brown. (Don't want that to happen, just making a point).

    scout.com on barber:
Barber has solid run skills and good versatility and toughness. He has a strong burst and is a better interior runner than his size suggests. His power is a little underrated. He isn't afraid to mix it up and challenge defenders. He shows good balance and will pick up some yards after contact. He is an excellent outlet receiver and rarely drops passes he should catch. He can contribute as a return specialist. But Barber lacks big-play ability. He isn't very shifty or explosive. He will run too upright and has only straight-line speed. He isn't very elusive and won't put multiple moves together on the second level. His patience and reads should improve with experience and Dallas' new one-back scheme, but both need work.

    scout.com on jones:
Jones has outstanding burst, quickness and top-end speed. He has the explosiveness to get to the second level and an extra gear to break away once he gets there. He has excellent balance and can make quick back-side cuts. He is very effective running against the grain. He can get to the corner and make defenders miss. He is tough to bring down, despite marginal size, because of his balance. He can catch dump-offs and flares and is very effective in space. He appears to be a willing pass blocker. But Jones has been injury-prone, and his vision and concentration are questionable. He is somewhat undersized and lacks the ideal build to run between the tackles and be the workhorse Dallas craves. He can be careless with the ball and is fumble-prone. His patience and ability to read blocks has been inconsistent in the past, and the Cowboys' new scheme will require more of both from the running backs. He still needs more work on his blocking and blitz pickup technique.

Barber was also used on third and long because of his big play ability the goal line carries were given to barber because he has a noze for the endzone as well. I don't have quite confused by the end of the season they almost phased out Jones due to Barbers playmaking ability.

Maybe a little quicker....but I think we should just keep Brown. He can spell Lendale, and 15 carries a game is about all he seems to want.
