coaching stops mattering at the pros cuz at that level everyone is an elite athlete and the skill differential is the smallest, so there really arent that many exploits,. also theres no recruiting at the pro level which is what coaches are for in college

Brett Favre had a 72 passing rating in Mccarthy's first year at green Bay.

As for Matt Flynn he has had a few games to judge him by and that Lions defense looks horrible. .

So if all the players in the NFL are equal, how do you explain that some teams are significantly better than others? You just wrote the difference between players is negligible, so obviously something else must be the differencemaker....

As usual, everything around here has to be black and white. Player skill might be more important than coach skill in the NFL, but coaching can still make a gigantic difference for a team. It doesn't have to be one or the other, guys.

Coaching does matter but when we talk about extreme comparisons like a coach who has Colt McCoy for a season vs another coach who has Tom Brady the difference is incredible.

Bill Belichick has a losing record in games without Tom Brady and that is just one player!

A coach needs to get the most out of the talent he has and to create a winning environment and attitude not turmoil.

When a player becomes a detriment to the team you show him the door like the Steelers did with Holmes.

Are Belichick, McCarthy and Payton elite coaches? Yes but don't think for a minute they win because they are that much smarter than everybody else.

This is why coaching is so important in the NFL. All the players are elite athletes, so what sets teams apart? Its the schemes, gameplans, and coaching that can put a team over the top.

And you have it backwards. In college, you don't need coaches as much because of recruiting. If LSU played against Tennesse Tech, it wouldn't matter who the coach of TTU was, they would lose because the players are no where near the same athletically. LSU could run the same play every time and still probably win just based on superior athleticism. It doesn't take a coach to recruit players, just a program with a strong history, some charismatic guy telling people to go to that school, and lots of scholarship money to offer. The recruiting part is more akin to a GM in the NFL anyway.

I would say coaches are about 30% of a teams success and players are about 70% depending on the situation.

well the difference in CBs is negligable cuz they all run a 4.6 minimum with a 36"+ inch vert. The difference in LBs is negligable since they are all on roids and elite athletes.

I think theres something special about the QB position. once you get an elite QB, youre team is automatically good, because an elite QB is too hard to defend because defensive ability is bounded by physical parameters, while an elite QB has limitless opportunities every play to make something happen.

    its all about the QB.
