Let's give Verner his props

McCourty is a solid CB but Verner just stands out a bit more on plays. They're both about even imo McCourty just didn't stand out today.

 

I'm pretty sure I've been saying this for quite a long time now... Verner > McCourty

 

Maybe, Verner is pretty damn good.

 

I have always preferred Verner over McCourty... and it's nothing against McCourty at all.

Verner made an immediate impact in his rookie season and outperformed McCourty who needed more time to develop.

 

I loved seeing Thompson get that block. If he doesn't pan out at TE, he's a lifetime special teamer for us. That was awesome.

 

I loved it too, cause it was textbook trucking. Most of the times when those type of pancakes happen the player making the hit takes themself out as well. He hit and kept moving ready for the next blocker.

 

McCourty may have better top end speed, I'll give him that. But Verner is just so much quicker and more agile. But the most important asset he has is his intelligence. I would love for McCourty to turn into a shutdown corner but honestly the only thing he's shown he can effectively do is tackle, something Verner does just as well though. In college his nick name was "pick six" maybe with us it'll be "strip six" haha
