(on who has the final say on the top pick)

Reese: "If it came down to a discussion, I would have the final answer – well, unless Mr. Adams is there. If Mr. Adams is there, he has the final answer on everything, so let’s get that straight."

Meaning: "Bud said we're sticking a decade-long middle finger to Houston by taking Young. Done deal. Was decided the day he declared."

(on how aggressive he will be in trying to package a deal to recoup the third-round pick from last year)

Reese: "You know, that would be nice. And we’ve talked about it. Again, a lot of times those things just have to do with who is there when your pick starts, who is there that is a comparable player x-number of slots below and is it worth picking up a third?"

Meaning: "We'll be trying to shaft the Jets when both Leinart and Young are sitting there. I'm their Daddy since the McCareins trade."

(on if signability of particular players is discussed in draft meetings)

Reese: It’s not because all of those good intentions prior to Saturday and Sunday seem to change on Monday. As soon as they are drafted, all of that cooperation disappears. You understand when you’re drafting people high you’re going to take the time and effort to sign him. It’s not going to be an easy deal, especially this year because the length of the contracts and some of the things you do make it more difficult. But it’s not like it’s an optional thing. It’s something that you have to do, have to get done, and at some point in time both parties will agree.

Meaning: Vince, we don't care if you show up to camp or not. We're paying you what we think is fair and we've got all the leverage. You're not gonna see the field in 06 anyway.

Internal Monologue: Well, we tried taking all of their files and throwing them down the stairs... Bud had been hitting the scotch, and had spilled it on the 3 QBs files when he was going into one of his long speeches about "those *******s in Houston", so when we threw the files, they stuck together and landed at the top of the stairs... we were going to flip a coin, but there's three of them, so that wouldn't work... quite frankly, we're just hoping someone moves ahead of us and takes one so we can flip a coin between the two, or lets us move down to get the last one so we don't have to make any tough choices..."
