Same with Silent Hill, Ratchet, etc. I'll get them even if they are flops.

I've noticed that these general principles have applied for me. I use gamespot and gamerankings primarily.

For games with lots of pre-release hype:
    10 - Must buy
    9.5 - Must buy
9.0 - Will do some research before buying, but it has a 75% chance
8.5 - Probably needs to be in my wheelhouse, rpg, ect.. to buy
8.0 - Not likely. It underachieved. Maybe 1 out of 100 odds to buy. Impulse.

For games I have a history with
    10 - Must buy
    9.5 - Must buy
    9.0 - Must buy
    8.5 - Must buy
8.0 - Hard look, might buy
7.5 - Little chance at all. Almost no chance.

For anything under 8.0, chances of being bought are probably less than 1:100. It would really have to be something I wanted to try like building roller coasters or something like that.

The reviews really shape my purchasing, but I have found they match up to the amount of fun I have. I've made some real discoveries by using them; I would not have bought these games if it were not for the reviews:

Dead Rising - I hated zombies, now I love them.
Grand Theft auto - I would never have played this without the hype and reviews. Love it.
Psychonauts - Nobody bought this game.
Orange Box - Totally bought this on the ratings, and could not drop it. One of the best games I've played.

    to name a few.

    Free advertising.

But seriously 2 words from the Koran gets it recalled? It's a bit stupid.

I tried to think about the logic of an expensive recall like that, and my guess is they have key employees who might be offended. So it had to be done. Either that, or maybe they were going to lose a huge market I am totally unware of. A bit strange to recall it over that to me.

It is strange because Sony ignored the Catholic Church when they had issues of the Church of England (or one of the churches) was in Resistance: FoM yet they remove two words from this.

I think Sony is enjoying the free publicity this game is getting. It's like GTA.
