SUMMARY: Titans long-snapper Ken Amato fractured his left fibula on Oct. 23 at Arizona. He was replaced by Jon Dorenbos for the remainder of the season. Dorenbos has requested the Titans not tender him so he can become a free agent and seek a job with another team instead of compete against Amato in training camp. "(Dorenbos) knows he is going to have a chance somewhere else," Titans General Manager Floyd Reese said. "There will be a couple of teams that will need a long snapper, and he can get a job. Rather than him come in and compete with Amato, he wanted to be not tendered." The Titans are expected to tender S Donnie Nickie and re-sign LB Cody Spencer, QB Matt Mauck and RB Jarrett Payton, all exclusive-rights free agents.

Amato brings a lot more flexibility than just being a LS, since he also plays special teams and linebacker. Dorenbos probably wouldnt beat him out anyway.

I can rest easy tonight knowing that the Titans have the LS for the 2006 season secured. We also have a LB position secured(I just hope he doesnt have to play LB again).
Nickey is back to compete for a job in training camp...

Does that mean we will not be looking at drafting a safety?

I think Nickey is here for his special teams play. I don't know if his tender is even guaranteed. I think he'll still need to fight for a roster spot.

Abysmal. This is the worst offseason in Titans history. I think I'll go dive in that pond at BPS for the sole purpose of generating more news than this. If the Shark is anywhere around and tries to save me, I'm dragging him down with me.
