With the NFL draft, we would only have his rights for one year. It's not like MLB or NHL. If a player does not sign, they could sit out the year and be eligible for the next draft. Samardzija is actually doing fairly well right now with baseball, I don't think that he is going to quit this year, (especially since the cubs gave him something like 10 million dollar signing bonus with a clause that prevents him from playing football). So in short, any draft pick... even a 7th rounder, would be a complete waste.

    We can do that..

We have 3 6th rd picks anyway so a shot in the dark with our 7th might be worth a try. I don't see the kid ever leaving baseball though. Even if he is just an average major league pitcher he can make $8M or more a year until he is 40.

    Smart-titan..

Good point and we know there is no way he signs within a year. He will be in baseball at least 3-4 years.. His contract for the cubs is already paying him $3M a year on average for 5 years with an option for a 6th and 7th season. We can't pay a 7th rd pick anything like that..

Everything is pure speculation at this point, but he can definately make more money in baseball since they don't have a salary cap

Sad to lose him to a sport that I really don't care about. He was exciting in college.
