    True story: a friend of mine in Maine was playing a club with his band and were in the middle of playing SHA when Neil Young walked in...just in time to hear the lyric. He turned around and left.

    I think it's pretty clear Ronnie had ideas about the lyrics to Southern Man. Though Skynyrd were a bunch of good old boys I don't think they were attacking the anti discrimination themes of that song, but felt it was unfortunate that Neil made it about being southern..
