Middle linebacker Colin McCarthy had been running with the Titans’ second-team defense throughout OTAs and training camp – until Wednesday that is.

McCarthy moved into the first-team slot ahead of Moise Fokou, in between starters Akeem Ayers and Zach Brown.

It’s been a long way back for McCarthy, who missed nine games last year because of an ankle injury and a concussion. McCarthy underwent ankle surgery during the offseason.

“He’s done well I think toward these last four or five days of OTAs and the mini-camp,” Titans coach Mike Munchak said. “He just looks physical. He looks bigger, stronger, confident again, just how he was last year at this time.

“I think he’s focused, and like I said, he hasn’t let anything bother him as far as what team he’s running on, what he’s doing. He knows that if he just does his job, he’ll be in the mix, and that’s exactly what he’s done.”
