Realistically we should remember that the Ravens 5th round pick this year was #146 in the draft. If the Ravens do have a playoff year this year their 4th round pick might be in the 125-130 range. So Reese's brilliant move of waiting may have only resulted in getting a pick 20 or so slots further up and a year later.

Reese must have thought he'd be able to find a market for McNair. He mentioned the Raydahs and another team asking about him at the end of the season. All that dried up fast and the Ravens became the only option for McNair.

I also think he felt the Titans would come out on the good end of the arbitrator's decision and he could string this thing along into August and put more pressure on the Ravens to pony up a third rounder to get him in by training camp.
