They were saying he looked like Marino. Quick release. Good decisions. Accurate.

I think they were going overboard with it.

That's what they're supposed to do. The worst thing any sports broadcaster can do is have a calm approach to things. No one talks about a levelheaded statement. Saying Mariota looked like Dan Marino though, that will get people to watch his next game.

I think the truly great (in every field) are in the business of providing a great/product and trust that the money will come as a byproduct.

Yes, but there has been a drastic change in the demeanor of ESPN over the last ten years. It's a lot more Access Hollywood than it was in the past.

Now you have the "Late Night" edition of SportsCenter with Scot Van Pelt, which has been unwatchable. And I like SVP. His radio show was the only thing I'd try to catch on ESPN throughout the day.

I was waiting for a basketball game to start a few months ago and Whiz Khalifa was rapping in the studio. What the **** is that?

Show me the highlights. Give me the stats. Pull at my heart strings with a special interest story. I don't need to hear the other 95% of the **** they go on about.

The downfall was when they jumped into the reality tv foray. When they did Dream Job and Stump the Schwab, that's when it all went downhill.

Now you have them shelling out CRAZY amounts of cash for the SEC Network, Monday Night Football, College Football Playoff games and everything else. They NEED to lower their journalism standards to bring in every possible viewer they can in a medium that is losing viewers by the thousands every quarter because of chord cutting.

It's only going to get worse.

The media caters to the masses.

Johnny has a large following, the networks know this, same with Tim Tebow, even Vince Young generated a lot of buzz his play didnt warrant.

Its the drama theyre out for... And like another person said, even you're talking about it, so its working..

Im guilty of drawing attention to things that dont deserve peoples time, but the best way to not hear about these topics is to not pump life into them by talking about them...

Sportscasters are just paid to talk; they don't actually have to say anything. Even color commentators vacillate between saying a player is a superhero or a scrub depending upon each play. Like with most people who talk too much, the worst thing you can do is give them your attention.

The media loves mariota all I saw last week was mm hype and after the disaster yesterday no one seems to be harping too much on mm( rightfully so imo). However I don't watch ESPN or the NFL network much so I may be out of touch but yes I think we got a media darling with mm.
