I got to thinking about this past season and I can't decide which group is more at fault for our bad season and which group negatively impacted the other more. Obviously the offense had trouble sustaining drives, and converting the 3rd & shorts, which in turn kept putting our defense back on the field quickly before they could rest & they ended up getting tired & winded.

On the other hand, the defense also had trouble getting off the field and this kept the offense off the field for long periods of time and prevented them from getting into any sort of rhythm.

So the question is, which group had the more detrimental effect? Did the offense's inability to sustain drives hurt the team and cause the defense to get too tired too quickly, or was the inability of the defense to get off the field and allow the offense to get into a rhythm a bigger issue?

The defense may have been at an all time low, but thats because Our offense was straight trash.

If we could sustain drives and move the chains, the D never has to be put in those bad positions.

No doubt it was the offense. If you look at the games where the D allowed the most points (Chi, Hou for example), our O gave up the football deep in our own territory, allowed turnovers to be returned for TDs, and couldn't move the ball at all ( not to mention our sp teams gave up some returns) ... I really can't blame the D at all for a lot of the points they gave up this year. In games where the O played well, the D didn't look too bad. I think that is what JG is still our DC

Offense hands down its hard to stop a team inside the red zone 6-10 times a game. Add to that back to back to back three and outs and you have a tired defense and a tired defense is a bad defense. How many times did we turn the other team over only to blow the next possession and the momentum on offense last year?

    Both.

Towards the beginning of the season, the D would generally give up a quick score or two. The would then play a strong quarter or two, but the offense would do absolutely nothing to get back in the game.

Then you have games like the Bears game where the offense never game us a chance. ...and games like the Jags game where the defense gave up too many big plays.

Munchak must have had the Defense doing wind sprints during pre game. They looked "tired" in the first quarter, and for some reason couldn't get "un-tired". Maybe Watterson should have handed out gatorade and orange slices to the guys.....

In all seriousness though, both sides of the ball were pathetic. If it's either/or, it's probably both.

If the offense can't sustain drives and convert on 3rd down...the chains won't move and it's back in with the defense. This was our biggest problem last year. We couldn't keep the defense off the field. That's why we got picked apart, game after game. Any defense would crumble, only ours was pretty bad to begin with.

If you've ever played on a team with a bad offense, you should know automatically that the Titans' problem is offensive. It's depressing to make a team go 3 and out, get good field position, and then watch your offense piss it away.

We only scored more then 20 in 3 or 4 games. Offense is definitely the problem. Offensive line in particular. Can't sustain drives, defense stays on the field, and then they're gassed by halftime

The defense was bad but the offense created a lot of that.

This stat tells it all, IMO:
    Time of Possession: 32nd
