I sometimes wonder if the media likes to refer to coaches as the opposite of what they are, you know like Schwartz = defensive genius, Billick = offensive guru and apparently Shanahan = QB Specialist....

I like how Hodge said "I won't bury the guy or say he can't ever get it done...."

Wait a minute....He has buried him and said he will never make it MANY times.

Yeah, it's a major backtrack where he defends statements he never made. What he says in the article is much more fair. I think he's realized he can never go back to his first position... he's been getting roasted.

ESPN's Hoge Maintains Low Opinion of Young

SUMMARY: One of Vince Young's biggest critics is Merrill Hoge of ESPN. "You have to keep things in perspective," Hoge said. "For people to say he is where he needs to be, that's dead wrong. He has a long ways to go. I will never bury the guy and say he has no way to get it done, but I am not going to change my opinion based on what I have seen so far. From what I have seen on tape, he still doesn't understand coverages. That doesn't mean in the next two, three years he won't get to that point, but it is still a 50-50 shot in my opinion." Though Young is 6-4 as a starter and the only rookie QB to come from behind from a 14-point deficit, Hoge remains unconvinced Young is going to be a successful NFL QB. "It's just too early to make a final judgment on any rookie right now, especially him," Hoge said. "Just like I said around the draft, it is a three-year process for him and it is a monumental learning curve with the ability to understand coverages. He's just been very inconsistent and has a lot of things still to learn."

The man's a tool. He keeps changing his criteria on Vince, from he wouldn't make it as a NFL QB to now he wont win championships. I guess Marino isn't a NFL QB either under his system! He should just man-up and admit he was wrong but he keeps trying to justify himself. Pretty soon he will have nothing to criticize Vince about, except maybe if he gets a bad haircut or something. HOOKEM TITANS!

Obviously a racist...lol I mean come on, if VY was playing for the Jets or Texans I'd be saying the same thing. Today's NFL isn't that much about mechanics anymore. Who needs to understand coverage when you can outrun everybody on the field, even those already 20 yards downfield? I'm not saying VY will never be a classic 5-step drop, pocket passer (OK I will, he NEVER WILL BE THAT!!!)... Vince will win with improvization, who cares about coverages, most stink nowadays anyways... Go VY, lead us to the promised land, do for us what Pastorini, Moon, Chandler and McNair were never able to. Show them all that this NFL ain't the old NFL where pounding the ball all day won you ball games...
