Titans coach Mike Munchak said he’ll wait to see how Jake Locker’s rehabilitation is going this week before deciding on which quarterback will start against Miami on Sunday.

Locker underwent his weekly MRI on Monday, in order to see how much progress has been made in the left shoulder he dislocated on Sept. 30. But it doesn’t sound like a decision will be made between Locker and Matt Hasselbeck until Wednesday at the earliest.

“I think hypothetically if we got to Wednesday and we thought he was able to take the next step and take (game) reps, then it would be more of seeing how he did physically and mentally (through the rest of the week), getting ready for an actual game again,” Munchak said. “Then if we felt he was there, it would be the final step of, `Hey, listen, he’s ready to play.’”

The Titans have a bye week following the Miami contest, so Locker would get two more weeks of rest if he doesn’t play against the Dolphins. But Munchak said that wouldn’t be a determining factor in this week’s decision.

“If we, after talking to doctors tomorrow, feel (not playing him) is the best thing to do because of where he’s at, then (we would sit him),” Munchak said. “But if we say, `Hey, he can play, he’s ready to go,’ then why wait?”

In parts of four games, Locker has completed 67-of-106 passes (63.2% completion rate) for 781 yards, with four touchdowns and two interceptions.

“I think he’d provide a spark if we were winning or losing,” Munchak said. “That’s why he’s our starter. That’s why we always answer the question the same. When he’s healthy and we felt he’s ready to play, that we’d put him in there because he brings a different kind of spark than Matt does.”
