Florida will fight that tooth and nail. The biggest recruiting advantage they have over FSU and Miami is the ability to tell recruits they can play in the best conference in America.

Likewise, the folks at Kentucky will oppose membership by Louisville and SC will oppose adding Clemson. It's tough enough for them to recruit against other schools to keep the best players in state without giving away their primary competitive advantage.

Florida, Kentucky and SC have formed an informal partnership to try to block FSU, Louisville and Clemson from joining the SEC.

If Mike Slive decides to expand to 16 teams, my best educated guess is that Virginia Tech and NC State will be the leading candidates. They could expand the SEC footprint into two new states and two new lucrative TV markets.
