Well let's see, Merchandising, vending, tickets, the revenue is everywhere outside of just advertising... how much does ESPN pay the NFL to broadcast their games? CBS? FOX? ABC?

It's the most popular sport in the US, and they make billions of dollars, enough to pay their players immense sums of money to play a game. Now, all that money tied up in there, and they couldn't spare a little bit to cut down on commercial breaks? Oh, sure, super bowl commercials are fun, but the other 99% of the season, nobody gives a damn. It's like paying out the ass for cable TV and still having to suffer commercials.

So, sure, the one answer is revenue, they want MOAR MONEH ERMAHGERD!But when I was a kid, it was maybe a minute at most, and these days channels like MTV has ten minute commercial breaks, probably bordering on fifteen at this point, which means a four hour game of football has just as long of commercial breaks, probably 20-30 minutes on each hour, which sometimes cuts into the action, how many times have you seen the game come back on, and the possessions have changed? or maybe there's a score on the board you didn't get to see?

It's all about more money. Because obviously the NFL doesn't have enough.

While we sit at home trying to enjoy a game, when suddenly we gotta see a commercial for why sex after menopause shouldn't have to hurt. I miss the days of "Where's the beef?" then the show would come back on.

Adult Swim doesn't make crap. I know a guy who got an offer to make one of his popular youtube cartoons an Adult Swim show. Said it was horrible.

Also Eric Andre has said they have the worst budget ever and don't make much.

A quick google search reveals that the NFL will make nearly 40 BILLION between the 2014 and 2022 seasons. (9 season I Think) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Football_League_on_television
That breaks down to a whopping $137,500,000 per team per year just off of Television contracts. That Sir is why you see the commercials. So pretty much the TV contracts pay for the player contracts for the teams. All the other revenue is where the owners make the $$$$.

Maybe they are worried about employee safety............... Which means they are worried about getting sued if some player has the goal posts crash on him.
