I have been of the thinking that Coach Munchak & Co. are leaning towards MH as our starter regardless of all the open competition talk but I'm starting to think that this thing might actually be a fair and real QB competition.

Before it seemed like they (coaches, management) were just saying Jake had a fair shot to win the job to satisfy those of us who want to see him unseat MH as our starter. As I look at it now, I'm starting to believe that Jake really does have a shot at winning this thing.

May the best man win. (Hopefully Jake)

[float][IMG][/float] The Titans have not tipped their hand at all about which of their two choices at quarterback might be ahead in the race for the starting job all offseason.

They didn’t start doing it at their first practice of training camp either. The Titans alternated between Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker throughout the session with the quarterbacks splitting reps within a series regardless of whether the first or second team was on the field. Many teams with quarterback competitions prefer to have the candidates alternate periods or even days running with the ones, but the Titans have come up with a different approach.

Titans coach Mike Munchak explained that the team wanted to see how the players responded without a chance to prepare for specific situations.

“We think that’s the best way to do it, for them to compete that way, to avoid a lot of things,” Munchak said, via the Associated Press. “Avoid looking at the script beforehand, knowing what plays you are going to get, knowing who you are working with.”

The Titans plan on using a similar approach to all of their position battles, but the quarterback spot will be the one that gets the most focus. Locker admitted to the AP that he’s not entirely sure what he needs to do in order to win the job, which indicates that the schedule of reps isn’t the only thing being kept under wraps in Titans camp.
