Panthers cut Justin Hartwig

    Hartwig benefited from playing between our two strong physical gaurds. He wasn't worth the money. I'm not suprised he has been cut after only two years. He's a back up, talent wise.

    Hartwig is just another example of a decent center we produced who did nothing elsewhere. Following the lines of Long, DiNapoli and some other guy whose name escapes me.

    Haynesworth would welcome him back with open arms though.

    Remember Hartwig had never played OC and we moved him there in the pre-season in 2003 (McNair's MVP year) and he did pretty well. I did think he had some problems with the better nose guards but he started for us for 3 years. He is versatile and can play 4 of the 5 OL spots. He got hurt his first season with Carolina and only played 2 games. I know a good part of releasing him is due to his contract but I would have to believe he can still help some team even at OG.

    You're right... the Panthers even said he would probably have been able to compete in Carolina for a starting OG spot. He'll land somewhere as a guard.
