Because DE is a HUGE need for us.

DB (assuming CB) is not. Simply put.

Uh... Safety? Yes. CB? No. And neither before round 3.

Once again- have a great defensive line and you can have 4 Lamont Thompsons in your secondary. Doesn't matter.

He'll be better in the NFL than in college. He's one of those players.

But hell, I remember people telling me Matthews was a reach in the first round too. Idiots.

How is CB not a need? Our secondary(as a whole) sucked. McCourty isn't a true #1 CB and Verner isn't a true #2 CB. We need a guy to come in and take that #1 spot, moving McCourty to #2 and Verner back to nickel. Even if Verner and McCourty were good enough to cover the Julio Jones' and Roddy Whites of this world(which they're definitely not...heck they couldn't even handle Justin Blackmon and Cecil Shorts), Verner is a free agent after this season. On top of that, Sensabaugh and Tommie Campbell are not good enough yet to be on the field all the time, which they are scheduled to be if we don't add any good corners before next season.

The fact that you think secondary doesn't matter to a defense's success just proves to me that you are a very stubborn person who doesn't care how ignorant some of the things you say sound. Since you said it once, you stick by it, even though it makes absolutely no sense. My brother is just like that. It's always pointless to try to get something through his head when he's made up his mind...lol

    Atleast you're not a coward though..lol

Hmm... I wonder why our secondary was bad?... Surely it wasn't due to no pressure on QBs...

You're talking out of your arse. Verner is better than McCourty for starters. Both are VERY capable at being #1 and #2 no matter which you consider.

Why? Without pressure up front- it wont matter if you have a prime Charles Woodson and Champ Bailey out there. No CB can cover for more than 4 seconds.

Good news for us- Roddy White and Julio Jones aren't in our division.

Tommie Campbell is good enough to play nickel. Just hasn't done so yet.

Actually it says that I understand that the past Super Bowl winning teams from the last 10 years mostly had average corners but created pressure up front.

I also know that our best secondary years came when we had pressure up front.

It's not a coincidence. Corners are VERY replaceable and not worth high picks nor high salaries. Get pressure. CBs dont matter.

I played CB in high school. So for me to say CB isn't worthwhile to invest heavy in says quite a lot. I have a bias for the position, but still understand any 2 CBs will look great if you have pressure.

    Something we're sorely lacking.

And on the flipside- adding the best corners in the NFL right now wouldn't help us one bit.

Have you seen our history of drafting CBs early?.... Go ahead. Take a look.

Holy Crap! DW is on a roll. I never thought I would say this, but I agree with everything he has said in this thread. Although, Hunt at 10 would be a reach. However, late first or early second would be fine.
We need difference makers for our DL. Currently we have zero.
