If it were that easy, everyone would be doing what they do. There's a lot of luck involved in sports success...

Redskins sign big free agents all the time and what have they done?

Its common sense and guys who will fit in with the team philosophy.

That's right, what was I thinking?...a Pro Bowl center doesn't fit our team philosophy of running Fisher-ball....neither does a speedy LB for a team that couldn't tackle at all last year (Witherspoon, not Thornton).

Instead we'll go the cheap route...sign three or four mid-tier guys and talk them up. Then when we are 4-12, they'll blame McNair and say he doesn't "fit" Chow's supposedly genius offensive system. Let's wake up here....the Steelers run a high school offense plus a few trick plays and they just won the Super Bowl....so did the Giants and Ravens when they won, so did we, for that matter, in 1999-2000 when we went. It's all about putting together a great OL and D. Two things we are sorely lacking at the moment.

At least the Redskins are trying and are not satisified with a wild card playoff appearance.

No one said it would be easy, but just because you have a bunch of money, you don't go out and overpay big money FA just for the sake of getting them.

The ones crying now for us not spending our wad on a couple of FA would be the same ones whining about overpaying players when we have blow up the team. Whiners always whine.

and when we overpay players you'll be the first to bash Reese for putting us in cap hell again.

There is a difference between whining and being critical. A young pro bowl player deserves pro bowl $$...that's not over paying. Bringing in a mid-tier UFA is going to cost more than a few $$. Thornton is going to get $3 million per year from someone....he's an average player, not a pro bowl guy. I agree, some of these scrubs are getting a ton of $$ from other teams. I am glad it's not us. There are a few guys worth the big bucks. We should be going after them and not wasting time spending our cap space on average players.

Duante is injured and Owens is an a$$, so no thanks. Arrington's ego tells me he wants too much. No thanks there too unless his cost is commeasurate to his value. My point wasn't to go out and get the highest priced or the biggest names.

Culpepper and Owens along with some help on defense and we could be back in the SB race. Will not happen but would be interesting.

A team that Has 22 average players will ALWAYS beat a team that has one or two star players. It never pays to spend a bunch of money on one or two players.
