yes wilson is average. switch him and aaron rodgers packers get worse seahawks get dramatically better.

 

I would say virtually any team in the NFL would get better with Rodgers and the Packers would get worse. Obviously Brady, Brees, Peyton, etc when healthy would still do well with the Pack but Rodgers is probably the best QB in the country. Of course, part of the problem when you have a Brady, Brees, Peyton, etc is that once you pay your QB around $20mil, it's hard to have a great team surrounding them.

But the other thing is, when you just look at stats, it doesn't have much to do with scheme or the team around them. Put Romo on Seattle and he'd do a lot worse. Put Wilson on Dallas and he'd excel. Rodgers can do everything well so he can not only excel in any system, he's one of the few players that can carry the offense himself. So while a Russell Wilson can match him in QB rating for instance, Rodgers is still better because Wilson can't carry the offense himself.

So we can debate an RG3 who had a great rookie season and really did a lot of it himself, but put him in a different system that doesn't align with his strengths (and add in injuries) and you lost your franchise level QB. So there are QB's who can be highly successful in the league IF you build your offense around their strengths. So Mariota can be successful if you put him in a similar offense to Wilson's....pound the rock, play great D, and let him do his thing on his terms. Mettenberger is in the same boat but you need more pieces for him to be in a position to be successful. Mett not only needs a better OL (because they have to be excellent in pass protection AND run blocking) but he also needs a big #1 WR.

Emitt Smith and Barry Sanders are a good example. I could say Barry Sanders would be hands down the greatest rb of all time in yards, td's, records, and reputation if he had gone to Dallas and Smith had gone to Detroit. But Smith was put in the best situation for him and had a Hall of Fame career with a team built for his strengths. So a guy who might have been just another guy on a bad team (ESmith on Detroit), ends up in the Hall of Fame. I don't hear anyone saying ESmith doesn't deserve to be there because he's just an average rb...

 

Only thing I see wrong with this comparison....Locker has HORRIBLE accuracy coming out, the injury bug, and a cannon arm...Mariota is more accurate, less injured, better stats, and a weaker arm.

 

romo would be able to hand the ball off to lynch just like wilson, while wilson couldnt bring what romo does in the passing game.

also emmit smith has the most rush yards of all time....russel wilson throws tds only in 75% of his games, multiple tds in just over 50%(hardly ever more than 2 tds), in a day and age where any qb could put up 4000 yards and 30 tds.
