Rewatched every pass play from past 2 games

    I just rewatched every pass play from the last two games against Oakland and Houston. I noticed some things that I'm sure a lot of people know already but to me some of it is new. By the end of almost every Mariota drop back, his receivers haven't even made their breaks yet and it throws all the timing off. That probably has a lot to do with Mariota looking so uncomfortable. He gets some blame too though because in a lot of his attempts he stares down his receiver for WAY too long. Also, on about half of his incompletions, the pass is deflected by a defender due to separation abilities of the receivers, or lack there of. I'm hoping these things are correctable in practice, I really do.

    I've done the same. Including the coaches film. (Gamepass) Receivers are not getting open. It's bad.

    I rewatched it too. I just don't see the regression that seems to be the overall theme going on lately. I see a qb in an offense that doesn't give him many opportunities. For instance the one play where he got sacked by Clowney he only had 2 wrs running down field and 8 ppl blocking at the line of scrimmage! That play needs to be completely scrapped. We are asking our wrs that already struggle with getting separation to beat constant double teams. Mariota had a couple of instances where he gave his receiver a chance to make a play on the ball and they failed each time. One to Sharpe who for some reason is only getting one hand up to catch the ball and Walker who couldn't muscle in the catch in the endzone. Other than that he isn't seeing his wrs getting open before the pocket collapses but he is making good decisions by throwing the ball away.. The turnovers just magnify the lack of success in the passing game. But majority of that is on this offensive scheme that creates the most mundane average passing attack for a very talented QB.
