RIP to Mal... One of THE most interesting figures in Rock (and later Rap) history. So many interesting and revered tales about Mclaren. A favorite is how Mclaren took Sylvain Sylvain's beautiful white Les Paul Custom as collateral on a cash loan to Johnny Thunders (for heroin) at the end of his time with the New York Dolls. Years later when Mal was doing his thing with The Sex Pistols Steve Jones was giving the guitar as a sort of gift to get the band interested to work with Mclaren. Steve would go on to record Anarchy in the UK and most of the other infamous Bollocks songs with this guitar..

Just one of dozens of cool Rock tales involving Mclaren and all the great bands and musicians he exploited. His biography is one the best reads out there. Highly recommended for anyone who loves this kinda stuff..

    64 is too young.

Wow. Didn't know he passed. While he isn't going to go down as revered in music, you can't discount his influence on creating groups. From Adam and the Ants to Bow Wow Wow and so on, he really understood how image was as important as the music for the 80's.

He definitely knew how to manipulate the bands.. There's a great tale about how the original Ants became BWW.. I don't think Adam will miss Maclaren.. Nor will John Lydon for that matter..
