You know rw3 was drafted at the same time as many of the defensive studs

The Seahawks have had a WR corps that has been no better than ours since Wilson arrived... Yet he still manages to put up good numbers. Their best WR since Wilson got there was been Doug Baldwin. I mean, c'mon. People (520) want to talk about how he doesn't put up monster numbers and is only good because of the defense and running game, but they never acknowledge the fact that his weapons in the passing game have been very mediocre.

Put Wilson on one of the teams with awesome WRs and the conversation of him being average would not exist.

I really hope the Graham addition helps him out... he just seems like a very odd fit on their team.

Plus hes like perfect for their system. Seahawks O-line is pretty bad and his ability to escape the pocket really extends a lot of their drives-- something i hope we get out of Mariota.

I always felt rookie contracts were bogus. It's because they are based on projected/speculated worth. They could flop and a team can cut bait and move on. Conversely, the rookie who FAR exceeds the speculative worth his rookie contract is based on, has no recourse.

The way I would add some parity to the situation, if I were the head man of the NFLPA, is to restructure rookie salary parameters, so that any time the player's performance is in the upper tier (25%) of the NFL, at their respective position, that player is immediately eligible to become an unrestricted Free Agent if his team does not sign him to a new contract, or franchise tag him, just prior to the start of training camp the next season.

So, for example...Mariota, will make a pretty good salary for a rookie (roughly $5mill/yr) taken that early, but if at the end of the year, his stats are within the top 25% of QB's in the league, he will be grossly underpaid compared to other QB's making $15-20mill. He should be eligible to be a free agent in the off-season, if the Titans cannot get him signed to a new contract or place the franchise tag, by the time training camp starts.

Rookie contracts are just flat out rip-offs and that is why I supported Chris Johnson's holdout. There is no reason why a 2000yd rusher should be making just 1.5mill when other RB's in the league are making 5-10x that amount, for less production.

yea...hes a perfect fit for the system that only need the qb to be responsible for 10 points a game.

Vets get paid big, often times after just one big season...not being sarcastic at all

Once a rookie performs on par with elite veterans at their respective positions, they should no longer be bound by a rookie contract...because those contracts are based on conjecture and specualtion...not performance. Teams are hoping young players will break out early, so they can milk that bogus contract for all it's worth...just like the Titans tried to do with CJ

no. not the same as a rookie coming in having a decent year and getting paid top money. thats ludicrous. that is the exact reason the pay scale was created...cuz rookie contracts were matching longtime vets

If the player can perform on par with the upper tier veterans, they should get paid a lot closer to what those veterans make.
If Mariota is statistically among the Top 10 QB's in the league at season's end, he deserves to get paid a lot closer to what the Phillip Rivers and Eli Mannings make. They have up and down years, themselves, so very few are really "proven" over time. Look at Cutler, for example. Veteran making big bank and yet he's a big bust.

Plus, what makes you think a re-worked contract wouldn't reflect the fact that the player only had one stellar season? Sure he wouldn't make Peyton Manning kind of money, but the huge disparity would be minimized to a reasonable degree
