The chances of rookie Brian Schwenke winning the Titans starting center position may have suffered at least a bit of a setback.

Schwenke, who left Sunday night’s practice with a left hamstring injury, did not participate in Tuesday’s morning practice session and said he expects to miss some more time.

“I’m hoping it’s no more than a few days, but they want to make sure I’m healthy and that I don’t come back with it hurt a little bit and then hurt it again,” Schwenke said. “So it’s just a matter of how it feels. But they’ll err on the side of it being healthy instead of it becoming a season-long thing.”

Schwenke said he actually started feeling discomfort in the hamstring during last Friday’s practice, but pushed through.

“I probably should have taken more precautions but because I’d never had a hamstring injury, I wasn’t sure,” Schwenke said. “I figured it was just tight and I’d warm up and be fine. But it ended up getting to me.”

Schwenke, competing for the starting center spot with Fernando Velasco and Rob Turner, was irritated by the nature of the injury.

“I don’t even use my hamstrings as an offensive lineman,” Schwenke said. “So it’s a little frustrating, but it’s a part of the game.”

He's right, most of an O-Linemans power comes from his quads, not like he's sprinting, whats he need hamstrings for....

I think he'll be fine in a week or two and we'll see him a lot in preseason.

Just don't rush back and have a nagging hamstring injury all year.

Velasco will be fine for another year as the starter. Schwenke will have his time.

i didn't expect Schwenke to win the job this year anyway. with Velasco and Turner on the team, Schwenke will be depth this year and win the job next year.

Hall of Famer's Mike Munchak and Bruce Matthews said Schwenke was their No.1 Center in this draft, how is a No.1 Center not expected to out play a bunch of scrub Centers?

    I dont get that.....

Velasco is no scrub.. he's not a pro-bowler, but he is a solid starter. There are teams with much worse Centers starting for them.
