Prisoners couldn't like guys that murder famous sports stars. There is bound to be some crazed lunatic that wants to be the guy that killed the guy that killed Taylor. Had these guys chosen a less notable mark, perhaps some white accountant who's never even had fifteen minutes of fame and not a famous black athlete, they could likely do ok in general population. Protection and safeguards may well be put in place to help ensure their safety. This means more lock down time and limited access to other prisoners. I don't know how the official thug code addresses this but I would think that these guys would have a rough time of it. Maybe not as bad as child rapists but something close.
