the counter examples already said are somewhat accurate.

1 - finny: the thing is he must have showed some serious signs of success in practice for Fish to put in a 7th rounder as a starter. also, if i remember correctly, we had some serious inefficiency at the position and injuries to boot. (however, one could say how come he didnt do it w/ harper or LT, which are very good points - they both sucked SO HARD)

2 - CJ: he was a 1st rounder, he had to get some playing time or else fans would seriously go crazy; especially at a position like RB where the learning curve from college to pros is nothing like QB/CB/WR...plus he really was the one who carried lendale to those 10TDs (i.e. clearly evident as budda couldnt even make it to camp w/ the seahawks after he supposedly 'watched his weight' and was 'more fit')

However, i too dont understand fishers commitment to mediocrity at times. I find the recent KFC to be the best example. if it was some other owner that made his coach put in a player (hold al davis or snyder), that coach would have gotten some mega bad press. But if i remember correctly some articles seemed like they were givin him the credit to making that change (per Bud saying it was kinda Fish's move in a way ill never understand -- IF ANYTHING PRAISE MIKE H. FOR MAKING SOME GREAT ADJUSTMENTS W/ THE PLAYBOOK)

I am one to agree that the QB, as they seem to get most of the praise when the team is doing good, they also get most of the blame when they drop 6 in a row to start a season, and while the team as a whole was not doing good, KC was playing REALLY REALLY bad posting some miserable passer ratings.

Sometimes you gotta shake things up in the nfl, if even to give the younger guys some experience. had fish done that, we'da at probably made the playoffs and that postseason experience to the team (i.e. especially younger guys) would have been nice (prob not a SB, but the way we choke in the playoffs, we need all the minutes we can get)

Come on Gunny, why can't you understand this? I'll help you out. The first thing EVERY fan of the Titans needs to do is accept the fact that Fisher with Alzheimers will know more about football and personnel than we as fans ever will. Second, Fisher has the MOST incentive to win football games of anyone in the league. After you accept those you can then add things up.
As for Nick Harper, he WAS the best option as the 2nd CB. To the common fan wearing his #10 or #28 jersey the CB position is all about the INT. They don't care about run stopping, blitzing, tackling, lining up correctly, understanding ALL the terminology, the mental aspect and having a knack for being in the right place at the right time.
Harper was far and away the 2nd best option behind Finnegan.
Now, the point you're getting at is if Harper was good enough to start in week 17 why would he be cut after the season. In Fisher's mind, he's gave McCourty and Mouton a complete season to observe and learn. Then they have all this offseason and preseason to earn the #2 spot. Harper could prob still be the best #2 option but you do have to get your youth on the field at some point and questioning Fisher's decision of when is a waste of time.
Harper was hurt for most of the 0-6 start and was not responsible at all for the 2 whippings against SD and IND in which our QB didn't show up as usual against premium teams. Harper was the right guy but I don't need to tell you that, Jeff had him on the field so he told ya.
You say Jeff puts too much on the young guys early in the season but was we not in the playoff realm until the SD debacle on Xmas? When was Fisher supposed to give up on the season to give younger players time on the field?

Here is what it is in a nutshell; Fisher expects his players to be grown men who are accountable. If he doesn't trust you, you're done before you could even start. Most fans mistake potential for ability. I yell all the time that Britt isn't listed as our 1st WR, but in reality he has shown very little to earn that. Yes Britt is faster than Gage and has better hands and jumps higher and does everything better, but he doesn't yet get open or run the routes cleanly to know where to put the ball. As a WR, you have to master those two things to start. And I know the only way he'll suffice Gage is to be given chances in real games. Fisher gives limited chances to guys, so you just have to make the most of your opportunities.

You think Nick "Burnt Toast" Harper had a knack for being in the right place at the right time??? Ha, that is funny because the only CB who was in the right place at the right time was your boy Rod Hood. I could dig up dozens of pics showing Nick Harper in the wrong place at the wrong time.

About half the guys on your list don't even fit the profile.
Miller wasn't that bad. His last year with the team was 2004 a starter for the Bears for three years after that.
Michael Booker started exactly ONE game for the Titans. You saying Fisher stuck with him too long?
Jenkins was with the Titans for the 2001 season ONLY and started only 6 games. That was the year the team was desperately looking for bodies in the secondary.
As for Renaldo, you should take some of the blame for that. You created a religion and Fisher bought into it.
Jevon wasn't exactly ridden hard last year. He barely played at all. Hayes was a rookie in 2008 (and from a very small program) and Kearse was about all we had.

So good points except more than half the guys make a counter argument.

Some good points being made here.

Fisher is not going to play anyone who doesn't know his assignments, period. There is example after example of superior talent standing on the sidelines because of this. He'd rather play the guy who knows where he's supposed to be on the field, or can read/adjust as needed, over a guy who makes one solid play followed by two blown assignments. I find it hard to argue against this in a team sport.

Tat is a great point but it doesn't apply to Fisher.

It's ok playing an experienced guy who knows where he needs to be and knows how to adjust over a more talented less experienced player.

If the experienced player knows where he's supposed to be but his body can't get it done then it's a terrible call.

    This applies to McCareins,Thompson,Harper,Washington(yeah I said it),Fowler,Young,Cecil.

When young needed to be taken out Fisher would have quietly ruined his confidence for good had Bud not stepped in.

Washington has the drops, get rid of him now or it will only prolong the agony.

When he was out, Britt and Hawkins showed that they performed better. Didn't matter to Fisher. As soon as Nate Droppington returned he went straight back into the line up.

What's Fisher going to do if Cecil still can't put a defence together? We'll know soon enough whether Cecil has progressed. Either way Fisher will stick with him through the year.

This is bigger than Gunny's point of why play a guy that you know isn't going to return.

How many guys do we see breeze deep into a contract before they get a chance to play. Just as we see the best of Tulloch he's up for renewal and we don't want to pay him.

Hawkins is in year 4 for goodness sake. From what I saw last year he's better than Washington.

Cook had a stellar pre season, he saved the day along with Hawkins during the Cardinals game. Wtf Fisher?

Fisher could to be on Aricept and Ebixa,Viagra and Ritalin and he'd still have his thumb up his @ss.

I'd bet it's usually the FO stepping in and making the decisions that Fisher isn't capable of.
