http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/25/scea-patents-advertising-that-interrupts-gameplay/ This means you will be playing a game then the game pauses not by you and plays a 15-30 second ad and you can't play your game til the ad is over. If this happens. Sony i'm out and you can rot
I really doubt this is something that would be added to your normal retail games. Probably would be for free and/or discounted titles. Kind of like Hulu. Implementing this on a grand scale would be absolute suicide for Sony. They know this.
These companies really don't want anymore business any longer it looks like. Next gen is going to be horrible with these kind of stunts. Non skippable ads, required internet connection to simply play single player, no used games.. yeah I'll pass, you won't get one dime out of me and I guess I'll have to go back to getting carpal tunnels on my PC. Sigh.
But who doesn't have internet now? I'd say if you dont have internet access- you probably shouldn't be buying a gaming console. So that's not a big deal. The ads thing surely wouldn't be during regular games. That'd be like bluray movies having ads mid-movie.
Many of rural areas in the US still don't have high speed internet. The people want it but it's not available to them. Those games that require a consistent connection require high speed. Also my Century Link router cuts out at least twice a day and they won't do $h!-t about it. So playing a game would just quit. Glad I don't play any games like that.
lol, I knew some idiot would post this everywhere. It's a patent. They, like Microsoft, Nintendo, Samsung, Apple have hundreds of these. It means absolutely nothing. Hell, does Microsoft even do this? http://www.gameplox.com/2012/04/25/microsoft-to-add-commercials-to-xbox-live/ Here's a website of crazy patents that don't happen http://www.freepatentsonline.com/crazy.html
