I would have picked Curry as well. Build the Franchise around the Defense and Culpepper is a serviceable QB in the right system.

Frankly...and this will sound a bit insane...

But I would have done one of three things. First, I would have negotiated a contract with Stafford, Sanchez, Curry, JSmith, Crabtree....

Then you make a decision on whether you'd really want a QB over the other guys and see what the difference in price is. Curry at LB wouldn't make near the contract Stafford did.

    Then I would have accepted very little to move down to 2 , 3 , 4, or 5. I don't need a blockbuster of picks...give me another 2 and a 4. I'd even take picks next year.

Point is, you DONT wanna pay that high a price for a rookie.

The other option...though insane...is to not turn the card in on time so the Rams could go ahead and pick the #1 pick if they turn their card in on time...so if they wanted stafford, they could grab him...and PAY for him. You could literally let a pick or two go by...or more...while you see who comes off the board and put in your pick whenever you want. Granted, the effect would be trading down for nothing...but if you could get Sanchez at 4 for a much more reasonable deal...it's worth it cap wise. Plus, you have Dante to start atm and a lot of people think Sanchez could have a higher upside.

Unless there is clearly a Hall of Fame caliber player coming out and he's head and shoulders ahead of everyone else...the first pick...especially for a QB is an insane amount of money.

Is this a serious deal?! This is outrageous. Fat Al got $41 mil guaranteed, so let's do the same thing! Great idea!

    Stupidity at its finest.

  5. Insanity. The NFL should have fixed this with the last CBA. It makes it a bit hard to pity the owners when their own stupidity allows it...

A QB selected with the first pick of the draft always breaks through the ceiling of the previous record contract, so this is to be expected. But this guy isn't in someone like Peyton Mannings league by a long stretch. I pity the Lions.

I'm really confused... could they not have signed him to a 6 yr/$50 mil deal or something of that nature. Why the hell is it so high?!

    Agreed.

His record "might" have a bit to do with that Baltimore Defence.
