    Me

It's the 30th anniversary of London Calling, and I still don't get what everyone was so hung up about with it. And what was their hit sophomore album? hmm... don't remember... why is that?...

R.E.M., like Van Halen, appeared and generated thousands upon thousands of garage band copycats. Granted, it's the music of dorm-dwelling trust fund hipster wankers, but they've been pretty consistent in putting out a steady stream of catchy, mindless, rambling lyrical casseroles with some tasty bass riffs and ambient guitar textures.

    R.E.M. ftw.

    REM.

I did a 20 minute slideshow presentation on them in a music class a couple of years back. Got a 96 on it. I know quite a bit about the group, actually.

Both bands have very unique styles. I just think the Clash are way off pitch and have a very whiny tone. Rock the Casbah is alright though.

The Clash for me. REM is like Neil Diamond.....music for middle aged divorcees.

The first 5 seconds of London Calling dogs everything REM ever did. And in regard to whining, is anyone whinier than Stipe?
Way off pitch? Have you even heard The Clash? Casbah was years after all their best stuff... And Avvie, the record is Give Em Enough Rope, a genuine classic..

I've never been able to repeat play a Clash album. I like the music when I hear the odd track but a whole album puts me off them for a while.

Same with Jones band Big Audio Dynamite.

    REM for me.

BAD couldn't hold a torch to The Clash. Can't believe a whiny college radio outfit is gonna landslide a great Rock band. The shame.
