it is pretty intrusive. You have to take a pretty decent chunk of hair out, from different spots on your head. And blood testing is very intrusive. The department of Transportation only requires urine samples, along with most other companies.

So then when a detective comes to me talking about they found my hair at the scene, I can laugh it off?

I was always under the impression 1 strand of hair is all it takes.

I always thought it was one strand as well.

I understand about blood testing though, economically, it just does not make much sense. I just find it slightly ironic that these "tough" football players make such a fit about it. I hate needles as well though, totally understand.

you can get DNA from one strand, but most labs require a good amount of hair.

    How much hair is needed?

A standard screen with GC/MS confirmation requires 40+ milligrams of hair or approximately 50 - 70 strands that are up to 3.9cm (or 1.5 inches) in length. The thickness and pigment color of different types of head hair (thick black vs. thinning gray) is the basis of this variation.

It's a decent amount of hair. Not enough to leave a huge, noticable gap in your hair, but a good amount.

Sure it can be good. Regular smokers wouldn't be able to pass, but if you rarely smoke, you can pass one.

My friend did this just a few weeks ago.

it depends on the metabolism of the person, among other things. a person in better shape will pass a drug screen more easily than a fat person that smoked as much.

I can understand that, but you can't expect guys to be doing football related stuff 24/7. There's gotta be at least some time to sit back and kick it. Even Peyton Manning takes some time off to do SNL and commercials, there's also family time for the married guys. Just cause a guy decided to smoke some pot doesn't mean they're any less committed to football IMO.

They need to take out marijuana from drug tests. Just test for the hardcore stuff.
