The hope among Titans and their fans is that running back Chris Johnson will return to top form this season after suffering through his worst year in 2011.

Johnson is fit, has added a little bit of weight and – unlike last year – has participated in the team’s OTAs and all of training camp.

But to say at this early stage that Johnson “looks like the Chris Johnson of old” would seem to be a little bit speculative, considering the Titans haven’t had a single tackle-to-the-ground practice yet.

Even Johnson is waiting for preseason games before gauging where things stand.

“I think the test will be preseason,” Johnson said. “Once preseason games start, that’s when you’ll pretty much know how it is.”

Johnson is looking forward to scrimmaging against Atlanta on Monday, though players won’t be doing full-tackling drills there either.

“We run against our guys every day and it gets a little bit old, so it’s always good to go up against another team,” Johnson said. “But at the end of the day it’s still practice. We’re not going live (tackling to the ground) or anything like that.”
