The #Titans have hired Lou Spanos as linebackers coach.

Spanos has coached 17 years in the NFL. The past two seasons, Spanos was the defensive coordinator for UCLA. #Titans

Not sure if position hires are breaking news or thread worthy, but the LB one is an important one -- especially if we go 3-4/ Ayers & Brown both looked fantastic 2 years ago, and both took a step back under Chet last year -- hopefully this guy & Horton can right the ship.

Geez.. From 1995 to 2009, Spanos served as the Steelers Defensive quality control and assistant LB coach.. Was only 1 of 2 assistant coaches to be on the Super Bowl XXX, XL & XLIII staffs.

In 2009, Mike Shanahan hired him as the Redskins LB coach. He stayed in that position until 2012, when he then became the Defensive Coordinator for UCLA.

Sounds like a good hire to me. Experienced guy who's coached under some great guys.

UCLA's DC to a LB coach in the NFL? Dang, that's an impressive job to give up just to become a LB coach in the NFL.

He's probably getting paid a ton to come as a positional coach. His experience is great especially for a young, struggling linebacker group. Also if we do make the transition to a base 3-4 then the linebackers will be a key positions in the change.

Apparently Ayers was playing all season with a bad knee. He just had surgery the other day. Brown on the other hand basically admitted he wasn't following his assignments.

Just curious, why do you think he's getting paid a ton?

Good point. Having worked under Cowher, LeBeau etc, this guy clearly knows what it takes to coach up good 3-4 'backers.

The Titans have hired Lou Spanos as linebackers coach.

Spanos has coached 17 years in the NFL. The past two seasons, Spanos was the defensive coordinator at UCLA. Prior to that he served as linebackers coach with the Redskins and Steelers.

Spanos worked with new Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt in Pittsburgh.

“He has put together a great body of work during his career,’’ Whisenhunt said. “In his extended time in Pittsburgh working with Dick LeBeau, he gained a tremendous amount of experience and contributed to some of the best defensive teams in the league. As defensive coordinator at UCLA, he again showed he is a good teacher and leader and we are lucky to have him working with our linebackers.”

UCLA allowed 23.2 points per game last season.

Spanos joined the Steelers as a defensive assistant in 1995. He was a four-year (1989-92) starter at center for Tulsa.
