The Titans are hoping middle linebacker Colin McCarthy returns to the starting lineup this Sunday, but it looks as if veteran linebacker Zac Diles is done for the year.

McCarthy missed last week’s game with an ankle injury, one that’s caused him to sit out four of seven contests this season. But he was not wearing a protective boot in the locker Sunday after the Titans’ win over Buffalo.

“The good news is we should have McCarthy back for this week, so we should hhave the three starting guys actually intact for this game,” Titans coach Mike Munchak said of McCarthy, Akeem Ayers and Zach Brown. “The question now is more about the depth at linebacker.”

Diles, who started at middle linebacker in McCarthy’s absence against the Bills, suffered a broken right leg in that contest and will almost certainly go on injured reserve.

Linebacker Patrick Bailey suffered a broken rib in the Buffalo game and Munchak called him “very questionable” for the Indianapolis game. Linebacker Will Witherspoon missed some time against the Bills with a sore hamstring, but Munchak expects him to play against Buffalo.

Munchak said that because of the injuries, the Titans will look at adding a linebacker in the next day or two.

Wow how is E.J. Henderson still a FA? I looked up his bio figuring he had a bad injury or something but it says he recovered in 2010 ...

Hmm, recovered from a bad injury vs the Titans ... came back played at Pro Bowl level still in his early 30's and was pretty productive as a tackler - there has to be some kind of red flag that 32 teams haven't swooped him up yet even for depth purposes - hopefully Titans jump on him considering with all the injury problems they are having this year.
