    Not going to happen..

Here's the reason we are not signing a top FA safety. Lamont thompson will cost us $2.4M against the cap this year. Know how much we save by cutting him before june 1st? Nothing! We actually lose 50K.

That's why we are standing pat because it's too expensive to pay hope, thompson's cap hit and still fork out the $3.5-4M it might take to bring a ken hamlin in. They are not going to pay thompson $2.4M to be a backup. Obviously fisher considers thompson of some value he has started him at safety every single game for the last 2 years. I know most of you would still gladly dump the guy cap hit or not but fisher doesn't see it that way..

Note that hope counts $7M against the cap this year. Add the $4M it might cost to sign a safety, plus the $2.4M for thompson on the team or not and that is a heavy price. I don't see them doing it.

Fuller and lowry combined only cost a million against the cap. Let's hope that chuck cecil can stir things up and lowry is our new starting SS. Please!

I don't think you can look at the numbers that way. You have to look at what money you have to spend and where you need to upgrade and you go out and do something about it. Thompson is water under the bridge money at this point.

    Soxcat...

No we can trade him. The raw numbers don't look bad. Mid career safety, 6'1 220, started every game over the last 2 years and has no significant career altering injuries. Someone will give us a late pick for that.

The thing to do is sign a guy like hamlin first and then we have a legit reason for unloading thompson. If we try to unload him first teams may wonder why.

If someone asks why we don't want the guy we can just respond that we needed more of a true SS type which is true.

I doubt all this will happen though. What i think we should do is always quite different from reality. Jeff fisher, schwartz andf cecil apparently have some attraction for the guy but maybe marcus robertson can straighten them out.

    Take note...

I'm saying what i would like us to do. Sign a safety and trade thompson. My first post is what i think they will do or not do and why.

Because of the cap hit they will hold on to thompson one more year and that means they will probably not sign a better player to replace him.

In that first picture in the Lamont Thompson trilogy, he looks like "Hustle Man" from that old Martin Lawrence show. He's working that porno star mustache.

It was a poorly thrown ball. Had the QB thrown it correctly, it would have been caught. You shoud know that.
