If wide receiver Kenny Britt can’t play in the season opener due to suspension or health reasons, the Titans have no immediate plans to add a wide receiver to the roster.

Titans coach Mike Munchak said the team would be comfortable preparing for the season opener against New England with Nate Washington, Damian Williams, Kendall Wright and Lavelle Hawkins.

“Because of numbers we’d probably go in with four like we did most of last year, assuming Kenny is not available,” Munchak said. “If he was available, we’d carry five in.

“As far as as adding a guy to the roster … or, one of the guys who hasn’t been on the roster before, that is something that could change depending on how things go in this (final preseason game). But right now you’re not leaning that way. But you never know, depending on what happens (injury-wise) in this game.”

There are a number of receivers still on the roster, including the 6-5, 206-pound Michael Preston, who’s made some nice plays in training camp. Preston was on the Titans practice squad last year.

But Munchak sounded as if – barring injury – the chances of any of those receivers making the 53-man roster were slim.

“He’s done well,” Munchak said of Preston. “He’s getting better, like you hope with young guys … You want them to learn the offense and feel more comfortable.

“It’s hard for those guys during the season, when they’re on the scout team and not getting a chance to be a part of the offense. But again, he’s a big target. At practice one day, Jake (Locker) must have hit him three or four times in red zone for scores. So he’s definitely improved his game over last year.”
