Titans release Jason McCourty

The season hasn't started, nobody knows what the CB position is going to look like once it does. If you're touting his past performances, you may as well advocate for Revis, because that's not the player that he is anymore.

The FO was able to get Murray to restructure his contract, but McCourty wasn't willing to do the same, and he isn't nearly the player Murray is at this point. A depth guy making the most money is hard to justify, and you don't know what kind of effect that has on the rest of the guys in the locker room.

 

I think they like Logans character, his work ethic, and his Superbowl rings. I think they might want him to be the new voice of the secondary and McCourty was getting in the way of that.

 

This move feels just as good as the Michael Griffin release.

 

I think that you're over analyzing this a bit much. I'm sure all those traits were contributing factors when we considered signing Ryan but I don't think it has anything to do with wanting only one singular voice. Having two locker room leaders in the secondary would never be a bad thing. This was a cap move. McCourty has been injury prone and underperforming his contract. Was time to move on for both sides.

 

How bad will it be to say midway through 2017 that we wish we had McCourty and Blake back?

 

That will 100% not happen. Ryan and sims are upgrades over those 2.

Griffin was here 4 years too long, Mccourty has only recently began to test our patience

But he would have become the next Griffin had he stayed around another year

They are, in the form of Cyprien and Sly but being paid 10x as much. Exact same players.
