Titans Safeties

    I am down on both of our starting Safeties. Instead of jumping to conclusions I wanted to get some insight from you guys.

    Griffin is making $8 Million a yr!!! I personally think he is not worth half that. He hasn't had a meaningful pick in years, gets ran over by RBs, and misses way too many tackles. Maybe I am missing some of the positives he is bringing to the table. I really hope so. Am I off base or is he really as bad as I think he is???

    Pollard signed a new contract and just does not seem the same. He is not even hitting hard this year. The one thing that I always liked about the guy was he would make people pay for getting to his level of the field.

    Do they have new roles in this new defensive scheme that is making them less effective? Are they being asked to do too much? Is the CB play just soooo bad that it is putting too much on them??

    I have never like michelle griffin and that is well documented on the site as I complain about him on a regular basis. To me, his play has never been what is needed in the position, and when the Titans decided to pay him that huge contract it was a sign that the organization was not truly serious about putting a winner on the field. He is average on a good day, on a bad day he sucks. When they let him go and move on it will be a sign that management is moving in the right direction.

    I don't believe he will be back next season. Cutting him and Levitre will give us close to $50mil total next year in free cap space.

    That is HUGE spending money for what will likely be a ton of new pieces on defense next year. That isn't even including the benefits of getting the two most overpaid players off our team either.

    I still can't believe we gave him that contract. And IIRC he was coming off one of his most pathetic years ever when we gave it to him. Another brilliant move by Ruston.

    Trouble is we have no good young safeties on the team. To replace Pollard and Griffin there will need to be a complete reboot at the position. Not out of the question however it is made more difficult when you consider all the other positions we need to upgrade.

    Damien Stafford seems like he can play. He has a knack for being where the ball is and I see him possibly taking Pollard's starting spot next year.
