I can attend my meeting right here in the lounge.

Last night was a great party. Lots of people. Lots of drinking. Plenty of smoking going on. I even act toward my wife as if I don't mind if she smokes in my truck which she did a few times on the way up. The party was in Sweetwater which is half way to Knoxville. It was a pretty good haul.

After attending a big party I'm still going strong. I saw a friend there I haven't seen in a while. He told me he stopped for two months and that he just had "one of those bad days at work" and picked it back up. He said, "I tasted that Newport and that was it. I regret it now."

I'm going to try to remember that if I ever feel like he did... which I inevitably will... I want a streak like Brad has. I want continuity in my cessation.

Oh, yes...I can relate. I did the same thing. I've quit three or four times and was sure that I had it licked. My reasons for lighting up again were:
1- To show that I was over addiction, and could smoke like a normal person.
2- Because I was bored, sitting at a bar and waiting to go onstage in three hours.
3-I kept hanging around smokers, and bummed one unthinkingly.

In each case I relapsed and smoked more than before, as if I were trying to make up for lost time. I'm learning that I simply cannot have one cigarette, just like I can't have one beer. I am absolutely unable to stop.

A buddy of mine quit a few years ago, and he feels the same way. His mom had quit for 25 years, had one cigarette at a social gathering ("hey, why not?...")and has been chain-smoking ever since.

Side note: Last night I went to an AA speaker meeting...the kind where someone stands at the podium and tells their story. To my surprise, the speaker was my cessation coach.

I've gotten down to about 3-4 Newport Lights (I enjoy that Menthol harshness too much) a day, I'm drying to reduce it to simpily when I'm out with friends or to relax, but it's difficult. I've tried lots of gum, but mostly just resisting urges.

Your habit sounds a lot like what mine became. I smoked Kool Filter King Box. I don't think I could go out and have drinks and smoke casually and not fall off the wagon altogether. By mid week after that weekend I would be smoking 3-4 a day again and wonder why it's so that I could get so close to not smoking at all and yet do it anyways.

I have been liking some gum for a while. It's been ween off-ween on type of thing. I found a 60 pc. jar of Dentyne Ice peppermint for $3 at the grocery store. That's the same as (5) 12 pc. packs at more the a dollar each. I found this other stuff that's alot like it. It's Dentyne blast Winter Chill. It has alot of extra taste because it has a gel liquid center. Very good though.
