If they don't bring in a vet QB in FA early they are pretty they are showing their hand at #2 IMO

 

So much that and it is his mentality the is hurting us. A balanced attack can be ideal but nobody is really going out there are playing smashmouth Fisher ball anymore, well at least not doing it and winning consistently.

 

A 'smash mouth' defense would be nice...

 

Except the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks, and the Baltimore Ravens, and the 49er's....

 

All have better QB's and passing games than we do. Far better.

When teams respect your passing game then you can run the ball.

 

Better offensive lines and better RB's

 

Better everything...

Nobody respects any aspect of our team to the point where they have to game plan around them outside of maybe Jurrell Casey.

Others like Wright, Walker and McCourty get extra attention but nobody is scared of them.

We are a joke at QB. Mettenberger isn't making anybody lose any sleep at night and CBJ certainly doesn't.

Bishop is pedestrian.

The oline is soft.


All of the teams JCB mentioned are contenders outside of SanFran currently and they will probably swing back up this year. Kap might not be a prolific passer but D coordinators around the league have to account for him on every play.

When we have a halfway decent roster then we can start to dictate what happens on the field the way Tommy describes.

When you have a QB that is a legitimate threat with his arm and/or legs and defenses don't load the box or blitz his ass off every play then you can play "smash mouth" football, then you can whip people on play action.

The Titans don't have that QB yet and they probably don't even have the RB or WR to do it yet.

 

I can't help but to think Tommy was coached to say "Smashmouth" a lot without really understanding it. That is what sold the Titans in the early successful days, so why not try it again. And ftr we heard the same chit Tommy was saying yesterday prior to last year- better concessions, better entry, better team, playoffs etc.

I suspect they have had dismal early returns on their PSL holders sending money in for 2015 tix and we're seeing a big PR push. Funny we didn't hear any mention about how we are going to get the draft right this year and how sticking with Webster for another re-build was the right idea...... It all sets up that Tommy's ace up his sleeve is to make Webster the scapegoat NEXT year when the team doesn't reach the playoffs again.

 

Many of our starters aren't even quality depth on most teams. We have a long ways to go before we even make an actual push.

 

So true, that goes back to having a lack of identity. This is the off-season we can decide what our identity is.
