    It's an African American holiday, not celebrated in Africa. It was created in the 60s by a black power member.

    For 99 percent of Americans... It's total BS. Holiday that is only for one specific skin color.

    yea it is a bit of a joke, but it has more meaning than Valentines, Halloween, Thanksgiving and even Christmas in most cases.

    I do agree that these holidays have no meaning left for many, but at least they are longstanding traditions. Yule (Christmas) was around for hundreds and hundreds of years before Christianity even came along into the west.

    I guess Halloween had some meaning in the past, with silly superstitions or something. Dunno.

    I don't take anything away from a group of people wanting to have their own traditions and what not. It is a bit ridiculous how it was started, but I doubt there is any ill will involved these days.
