I need me some Ernest Given's Electric Slide. Greatest celebration ever. It was even human to do what he did.

Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Joe Montana, Steve Young....none of those guys felt the need to make any elaborate, masturbatory displays of ego gratification. And they did some pretty good stuff, as I recall.

When someone comes along and accomplishes something greater than those guys, then by all means....do whatever strikes your fancy. Be my guest. Until then, STFU and handle yourself in a professional manner.

I don't mind a short display of enthusiasm, or players making a little "victory" gesture....McNair's Omega sign, for example, or The Lambeau Leap. I also don't mind celebrations that recognize the efforts of the entire team, like the Broncos' Mile High Salute. (VY's celebrations are kinda borderline....they're a bit more self-congratulatory than I like, but at least you can tell they're spontaneous and from the heart....a product of emotion more than ego.)

What I'm real sick of is guys playacting a rehearsed sequence that does nothing but draw attention to themselves as individuals. Every time they score a TD, they start acting out charades.....like a multi-million dollar mime. It's ridiculous.

(BTW, did anyone happen to notice that the league is seriously considering a rule that would outlaw spiking the ball when a player is tackled between the goal lines? No more spiking the ball after a 6-yard gain, or it's a delay-of-game penalty....I love it.)
