Training Camp Battle #2 - #1 Wr

I went with Roydell based on a couple of things... He's not been great so far, but he's also been playing injured - broke a finger and played with a wrist injury... could easily cause drops. I rewatched a couple of games and he actually made some pretty great plays - didn't get a lot of looks, but when he did he generally made the play. I'm pretty sure he's the fastest receiver we have, and early reports from mini camps are that he's made the most progress of the WRs this offseason, and that he's one of the tougher guys (where Jones reportedly hasn't been physical enough to get a clean release off the line).

Jones is still the favorite, but I think Roydell has a good chance to surprise us this year. Watching some of Vince's highlights, though - Vince hit Jones on a post route for a ton of big plays... seemed like 70% of the plays I saw on youtube highlights. I hope they both break out this year - we need it - just 1 won't help.

 

It's funny because Roydell was pretty consistent in college. I'm hoping he gets his confidence back and knows the system and the QB better now. As a result, he should perform much better...but not as our number one. That belongs to either Jones or Gage right now.

My darkhorse is still Orr though, for that second WR job. He has speed and could be a great outside WR. I think P. Williams needs a year. He's just too raw.

 

Don't sleep on J. Orr he has speed and a year under his belt learning the system. He could easily step up and take a spot from roby and roy if he can put it together in training camp and Preseason.
