Eight five was one of his nicknames. There is, or at least was with the Bengals, a space on his jersey between Ocho and Cinco. He talked about changing his name to Hachi Go, which is "eight five" in Japanese.

I don't understand why people have such a hard time with this...

 

Because it is eight five and not eighty five?

It is not the same translation.

regardless, this is a dumb thing to be arguing about. Guy changed his name to a number for crying out loud.

Don't get me wrong, I thought SOME of his shenanigans were funny, but he started coming off like a try hard.

 

I don't know why people can't grasp that he is most likely intentionally calling himself "Eight five".

...just like sometimes people might call Kenny Britt "one eight". Expect big things from one eight today. One eight made a big play there, etc, etc, etc.

 

I can grasp it, I just don't think it worked out that way.

And maybe it is because I just don't pay attention, but I have never heard that. Not to say it doesn't happen.

 

He started the Ocho Cinco thing years before the name change during Hispanic Heritage month. He is from Miami and the way that he created and marketed himself as a brand is studied in graduate level business schools.

Like him or not, and I no longer like him, I think people sell him short.

edit: ...and he plays off that and uses it as part of his brand.

 

Is Dajohn Harris injured??

How does he go undrafted? He'll at least be better than SenDerrick Marks.

he was constantly double-teamed but still made plays. Any time he wasn't doubled, he'd be in the backfield.

 

Not injured, he has a natural heart defect known as patent foramen ovale.

Must have scared teams off. Good for us thou.

 

That is a bit scary. Reminds me of Odom in that regard.
