Man, my mom is from Panama City, and when I was growing up, we spent two weeks every summer at a little house about a half mile down from Club La Vela. As the tourist industry got bigger and bigger, we started moving farther and farther away. We've stayed at Mexico Beach, Santa Rosa Beach, Cape San Blas, and St. George Island. All are so much better, if you're looking for a beach. If you want a spring break party and a bunch of drunk idiots, go to PCB. When I go to the beach, I want a quiet beach with as few other people as possible, and myself as close to the beach as possible. I'd hate a high rise and I'd hate not being oceanfront. There are plenty of great quiet beaches in Florida, but thankfully they're the ones that no one talks about.

    Re: Hostels...

Hard to tell until you get to the city. Big cities always have a bunch of hostels though, so shop around. Don't get the cheapest thing around, check online reviews, and make sure they aren't completely off the map.

Eh, maybe if you're young. Or single. I'm 27 and married and wonder what on earth me and the wife would be like there now.

Since it sounds like your single, enjoy! Cruises are awesome, I've been on 4 but always had a wife or girlfriend with me. Singles cruises generally attract older singles, so unless you're part of the 40-50 crowd you may not like it.

October is a great time to travel. Weather is still good, kids are in school, no crowds.

The west coast (California, Oregon) has great weather in October. Still in the 80's. If you want gambling, I prefer Reno over Vegas. I used used to be a local at both, Reno is smaller and more affordable. Stay at South Lake Tahoe (casinos there too), reno is 1/2 hour away. Plus they have legal brothels outside town if the need strikes.

I would also suggest Puerto Rico (no passport required), The Dominican Republic or Costa Rica for cool destinations. Take surf lessons in CR. Virgin Islands are pretty neat too.

Yes, lots of extraordinarily unoriginal couple come here to honeymoon... but they mostly stay on the resort property. Outside of that, visit a volcano, surf, kiteboard, hike, beach, drink, fish, snorkle, dive, zipline, helicopter, feed giant manta rays...

    nyah, nevermind. Hawaii sucks ;)

Hawaii is on my list of places to go... probably won't happen 'til after college unless I feel like using almost all of my money on one single trip.

There's no where else in the U.S. I want to go besides Hawaii. I went to Vegas after an 8 day rafting trip down the Colorado River (one of the funnest things I've ever done). The rapids were amazing, but the water is just a tad cold. :wink2: I was only 10 then, so my time in Vegas was absolutely useless. I'll go back when I'm 21... probably a bad idea though.

I'd recommend the rafting trip down the Colorado River if you were leaving on vacation within the next few weeks and going with a few people. You should do it sometime though. I would love to go back.
